A £540 fine was handed out by Glasgow Sheriff Court to a representative of a haulage company for knowingly causing the deposit of controlled waste on the site of a former power station at Dalmarnock Road, Glasgow, without the authority of a waste management licence. The land owners received £11,000 in compensation.
It would be interesting to see if the compensation covers the cost of removing the material to a suitably licensed facility and for the disruption caused. I don’t believe the fine would stop anyone from risking this again especially if there was good money to be made.
The system must work though as ‘justice’ was done, do you know your waste duty of care?
