Vapour extraction is used for removing volatile vapours (fuel odours) from groundwater and/or soils. Vapour extraction is in basic terms, vacuuming vapours out of the ground. Vapours are then passed through carbon filters before being safely discharged to air.
As a technology on it own vapour extraction has limited impact on contamination, when used with other techniques its impact increases significantly. For example we have used vapour extraction alongside chemical oxidation, removing the vapours produced during the breakdown of contaminants from chemox use.
