We've just launched our
new Soil Remediation Blog.
Let us know what you think!
Soil washing as with all other exsitu treatments is an excellent form of treatment...but be warned the technology has its limitations...!
It's best employed on granular soils with a low proportions of' fines' i.e. the cohesive soils particles such as silts and clays, on which the majority of contaminants adhere to.
The washing process removes/reduces the contaminant concentrations on the granular materials by washing off the 'fines' and leaving a cleaned aggregate. The lignates used in the 'wash waters' can vary from bio-solvents through to petrochemicals depending on the nature and type of contaminant to be treated.
The 'fines' produced by the process are more often than not disposed of at a landfill site.
Soil washing generally requires a considerable amount of specialist plant and equipment and adequate space for stockpiles, drying areas and water treatment plant.
Selection, design and procurement support of remediation systems including cost estimates and planning are all part of Soilutions service to meet with customers requirements. See our Remediation Options Appraisals for more information or feel free to phone (0131 538 8456) we'd be happy to take your call.
