HYDROCARBON CONTAMINATED WATER REMEDIATION Client: Highlands & Islands Airport Ltd www.hial.co.uk Challenge: To separate free phase and remove dissolved hydrocarbons from a redundant fuel pipe linking a fuelling jetty to storage tanks, across machair and marsh land at the end of the main runway, 1.6km onshore. Applied technology: Separation of hydrocarbon phases and removal of dissolved phase using MyclexTM filtration technology. Remediation criteria: Consent to discharge criteria set by Scottish Water at 15 ppm Validation: Ongoing monitoring by consultants. The redundant NATO jet fuel pipeline contained an unknown amount of water grossly contaminated with kerosene, which had the potential to impact on a neighbouring SSSI beach. Soilutions designed and built a custom filtration system capable of reducing hydrocarbons and other organics to <1ppm at a rate of 5 cubic meters per hour. Inline monitoring devices ensured that all fee and dissolved phase kerosene was removed. With the prospect of considerable expense involving tankering the contaminated waters to a mainland treatment centre Soilutions decision to design and mobilise the unit to site guaranteed the client significant savings. Client recommendation: “We were extremely delighted with the professionalism of Soilutions and would highly recommend their service to others” - Nathaniel Anderson – HIAL Length of Project: |
